What Are Technical Controls in Cybersecurity?
Technical controls are technology-based safeguards that are implemented to prevent, detect or mitigate security threats. Technical controls form a critical layer in defense-in-depth strategies and must be complemented by administrative and physical controls for holistic security.
Examples of technical controls include:
- Access controls;
- Cryptography;
- Network devices;
- Anti-malware;
- Patch management; and
- Logging and monitoring.
